The La Jolla Interfaces in Science (LJIS) is an interdisciplinary and interinstitutional training program in La Jolla, supported by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, involving the University of California at San Diego (UCSD), The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), the Salk Institute for Biological Studies (SALK), and The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC). This program supports the exploration of interfaces between the Biological and Biomedical Sciences and the Physical, Computer, and Mathematical Sciences. The primary goal of the LJIS training program is to provide an environment that develops scientists who are able to apply the quantitative methods of Chemistry, Physics, and/or Mathematics to the increasing number of Biological and Biomedical problems where such methods are critically needed.
